Walk through an example data mapping for a Looker Studio data source. Use filters and lookups to select the correct data.
Let's examine how to match each placeholder in the slide deck template to the correct data from a Looker Studio dashboard.
Slide Template
Here is a slide template. Remember, you must create a slide template in Google Slides or PowerPoint and enter it as a New Project before you proceed.
This template has placeholders for text, charts, tables, and numeric KPI values that will be filled in.
Match a dashboard chart to the template
Let's begin by mapping charts to the chart placeholders in the template.
Navigate to the data source and click Configure to open it.
In the charts section, select your worksheet (dashboard page) and click Preview to view all the charts from that page. To stay organized, you can rename or favorite the charts that you want to use in your slides. Click on one of the charts and then Preview to see a larger version.
To match a chart to one of your placeholders, click the Send icon .
A window will open where you can select the project (template) and the specific placeholder (pragma) where the chart should be placed. Click OK.
Repeat this for all the charts in your deck.
Charts and tables can also be mapped to placeholders on the Configure page for the project.
Match a dashboard table to the template
The process to embed a data table is very similar to that for a chart. In the Tables section of the Data Source page, select your worksheet and click preview to see all the data behind each dashboard element. Click on one of the tables and then Preview to see a larger version.
If you want a subset of the table, you can set the columns to view or filter the data by any column value, or simply limit the number of rows to display.
To match a table to one of your placeholders, click the Send icon . In the next screen, select the correct placeholder and click OK.
Fill in a KPI value from a dashboard table
To select a numeric value from the dashboard and embed it in the slide as text, go to the project and click Configure Data.
Find the blue box for the KPI and click Preset a Value.
Next, select the data source and choose Query From Table. This means you will pull the KPI value from the data behind one of the dashboard elements.
Select the worksheet and table.
Choose the column that contains this metric. For example, if I want to get the value of the Strength Index for Non-Sponsored Ads, I'd choose Strength Index here.
Finally, Add a filter to select the exact value that you want to pull from the table. Click Preview to see the value and make sure it is correct.
Scroll down to the end of the data mapping section and click Save to save the mapping.

Once all data is mapped to the template, click Generate on the project to get the results!
